Somerset people recognised in 2023 New Year Honours

SOMERSET’S great and good have been recognized in the New Year honors list.

The awards have received awards for outstanding contributions in various fields.

In Somerset, awards go to people working in computing, cultural arts and heritage, home care, education, public health and charity, sport and community service.

Here is a collection of people from our county who have received awards.

Among them is one of our own, journalist and broadcaster Anne Diamond, who started her career as a reporter for the Bridgwater Mercury.

Rebecca Gay George OBE of Taunton. Lately Past President of the British Computing Society. For services to diversity in the technology profession.

Peter William Kyle of Bath. Lately Chairman of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. Services to cultural heritage.

Eve Coulter Salomon of Bath. Chairman of the Horniman Museum and Gardens. For services to Arts and Heritage.

OFFICER OF THE ORDER OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE (OBE).

Dr Jane Karen Townson Philpott of Somerton. Chief Executive of the Home Care Association. For services to family care, especially during Covid-19.

Nolan Andrew Smith of Portishead. Director of Student Resources and Finance for services to Higher Education.

Ann Margaret Diamond of Buckinghamshire. Campaign and fundraiser. For services to public health and charity.

John Henry Bishton of Bruton. For services to the Preservation of Historic Buildings in Bruton.

Susan Anne Crawley of Bridgwater. For services to public libraries.

Geoffrey Ronald Lydyatt of Portishead. For services to Nuclear Test Veterans and to the community in Bristol.

Denis Andrew Southerden Byrne, of Cleeve, for services to charity and to the community in Bristol.
