PITTBURGH—TJ Belsterling, owner of a landscaping company, had no idea what to expect when he came to see Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Benedum Performing Arts Center on the evening of January 14th. Mr Belsterling could not recommend this experience highly enough.
“I’ve never seen it before. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a really good message. [Shen Yun] He made very good points. It’s not just something everyone will enjoy, it’s also [the performance had messages] It is something that anyone can take away.”
Learning that the company guarantees a brand new set of music and choreography every year, Mr. Belsterling said he would definitely come back for more.
“[The dancers’] the movements, their fluidity, the way they acted together, the storytelling – it was all great. Real art, really.”
Headquartered in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts is currently the world’s top classical Chinese dance and music company. Acclaimed since its founding in 2006, Shen Yun has grown to include eight equally sized companies traveling the world at the same time.
For Mr. Belsterling, Shen Yun “talked a lot about virtue and how we drifted away from caring for one another. We’re so exhausted in our own worlds, in our own heads.”
“According to me [Shen Yun] invites us to embrace not only ourselves but each other. [We need to] Express the divinity within us and let the world see it.”
Founded by prominent Chinese artists fleeing the persecution of China’s communist regime, Shen Yun artists have a mission to revive and share with the world China’s 5,000-year-old divinely inspired culture from the pre-communist era.
While Mr. Belsterling said it was “shameful” that Shen Yun is currently demonstrating in China by the communist party, he believed that the demonstration invites people to reflect on what is happening not only in China but in all surrounding countries. World.
“I hope one day [Shen Yun] He may go to China because he has a great message. Everyone needs to hear, especially the people whose culture they represent.”
“It’s not just the dancing or just the art that matters, it’s the real message being delivered. He summons that divinity within.”
