
Henry Cavill says he never gave up hope of playing Superman again one day. However, even he was surprised at how exhilarating the experience was when he finally put the cape back on.
Cavill worked six days a week at Netflix Witcher when an arrangement was made for him to appear in a scene in it Black Adam, he recalled during a conversation with MTV’s Josh Horowitz at the 92nd Street Y on Wednesday night. He had to get permission from Witcher team, but as the actor recalls, “It was so secret we couldn’t tell them what.”
When he arrived at Warner Bros. UK studios for filming, he wore a suit he chose because of its emotional resonance: the suit he wore in 2013. The Man of Steelhis first outing as a hero.
“I chose it in particular because of the nostalgia associated with the suit,” Cavill said during the conversation, which was a live recording of Horowitz. Happy Sad Confused podcast. “It was very important for me to stay there and enjoy that moment. This is one of the best moments in my career. It feels good to have the opportunity to wear it again.”
The conversation comes after an eventful week for Cavill. The actor returned to the big screen as Superman for the first time in five years Black Adam. And on Monday, he confirmed that he will indeed be playing Superman in future DC installments, saying in a video posted to social media that what audiences saw in Black Adam it was just “a little taste” of things to come.

Cavill was first cast as Superman The Man of Steel, directed by franchise architect Zack Snyder. The DC Universe has gone through seismic shifts since then. Warner Bros. is under new leadership, with Guardians of the Galaxy AND Suicide Squad director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran were named to top DC posts under the newly opened DC Studios, which will be home to Cavill’s upcoming Superman outings.
Cavill said he was “very excited” about Gunn’s hiring and joked about rumors that he would be joining Marvel’s Lokisaying that if Gunn can jump back and forth between Marvel and DC, then maybe he can too.
The sources said The Hollywood Reporter that Warner Bros. is getting pitches from writers for a sequel The Man of Steel. Cavill declined to comment when Horowitz asked if he had any news to share about the filmmakers or the writers: “Right now I can’t share anything, … but in time, I’ll be able to share and everyone will hear all the emotions. things to come.”
Director Snyder sent in a video query from the set of his Netflix movie Rebel Moonasking Cavill to reflect on their early flight scenes and ending the video by noting, “I can’t wait to work with you again.”
Cavill responded by thanking the director: “He’s a beautiful man and I’m incredibly grateful for everything he’s done for me. … Those are my formative memories, career-wise. That’s when everything changed. I remember them fondly. … Zack, if you’re watching … Thank you, my friend.”
As for his future, Cavill had some thoughts.
The actor said: “There’s such a bright future ahead for the character and I’m really excited to tell a story with an extremely cheerful Superman.”
